The North Sumatra Forum for the Environment (Walhi) was sued for IDR 52 billion by a corporation after the Medan High Court upheld the decision of the Padangsidimpuan District Court which rejected all of Walhi's lawsuits. Previously, Walhi suspected that PT Nuansa Alam Nusantara (NAN) had committed an illegal act regarding the ownership of orangutans.
The civil case between Walhi and PT NAN started with a Walhi lawsuit that was filed last March 2021. Walhi suspects that PT NAN has committed illegal acts related to the ownership of a number of protected animals, including orangutans.
However, after holding the trial, the Panel of Judges at the Padangsidimpuan District Court rejected all lawsuits filed by Walhi.
On this basis, PT NAN, which felt aggrieved, filed a counterclaim at the cassation level against Walhi in the amount of IDR 52 billion. This was done because the company's good name was tarnished as a result of this case and it was difficult to find investors.
